Buckingham Heights is a centrally located upscale high-end neighborhood in Burnaby near the southeast corner of Deer Lake. Some of Burnaby’s most expensive properties are in Buckingham Heights and some have nice views of North Shore Mountains. The area is a short walk to Deer Lake and all its nature walking trails and Park. Being so close to the lake means some properties have streams running through them as they run into Deer Lake. Plus the area has plenty of green space with 3 parks! The neighbourhood consists mainly of large single family homes on large stately R-1 lots (6300 SF homes can be built on many of these larger properties).
There are 2 elementary schools in the area; the highly ranked Buckingham Elementary and Malvern Elementary. Burnaby Central High School is a newly built secondary school conveniently located to the City Hall, the Shadbolt Centre, and Burnaby Winter Club.
Buckingham Heights is in close proximity to the intersection of Edmonds St and Kingsway (HighGate Centre) which provides a variety of essential amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants, cafes and a fitness centers. Also it is not too far from Metropolis at Metrotown but for smaller items there are some basic amenities nearby at Canada Way and Sperling. With all the amenities so conveniently located this area makes Buckingham Heights a great community to raise a family!
Burnaby Lake is located on the north side of Canada Way across from Buckingham Heights and Deer Lake. Unique to the middle section of Burnaby Lake is a subdivision built mostly in the 1980s and 1990s with all the electrical wires going underground with several cul-de-sacs and great views of the North Shore Mountains with some homes being able to see Burnaby Lake! Most of the area is quality single family homes. There are a couple townhouse complexes. The established townhouse community Arbourlane located at Burris St near Canada Way (built in 1980). Also the new high end townhouse development, Saville Row. Lakeview Elementary is the local school and there is ample park space for families: Burnaby Lake Park, Lubbocks Wood Park, Deer Lake Creek Parkway, Lakeview Park and Robert Burnaby Park.
The largest parks are Burnaby Lake Park and Robert Burnaby Park.
Burnaby Lake Park offers a MULTITUDE of sports and outdoor activities. The park consists of the Bill Copeland Sports Centre, Burnaby Lake Sports Complex, C. G Brown Memorial Pool, Bill Copeland Sports Centre/Burnaby Lake Area and the Burnaby Lake Pavilion. Plus the Burnaby Lake Regional Park offers walking and horse trails. It is perfect for a sports enthusiast!
Robert Burnaby Park is a nature’s getaway! Surrounded by a forested ravine creek area are numerous amenities: playground, summer outdoor pool, tennis courts, dog park area, jogging and walking trails.
Burnaby Lake even though the area is mainly residential is close to the great parks, amenities, shops and businesses on 6th Ave, Highgate/Edmonds town centre and Metrotown.
Deer Lake (Lower Deer Lake)
The Lower Deer Lake neighbor is a unique blend of urban life with nature and is ideal for those looking to find a home away from civilization within the city. Deer Lake consists of mostly single family dwellings, on large R-1 lots. The area is known to be an art and heritage hub of Burnaby and is known to have some beautifully built custom homes that reflect the artist environment. The highly sought after area has some of the most valuable land in the area. It is just to the west of Burris St (Buckingham Heights) and next to Deer Lake and Deer Lake Park and trails, The City Hall, Hart House, Burnaby Village Museum, and the Shadbolt Centre (arts centre). The City hosts of many summer concerts FESTIVAL LAWN AT DEER LAKE PARK on the grounds of Deer Lake! The Deer Lake Parklands is a home for wildlife in the middle of the city with many birds, ducks, frogs, fish, geese, and even coyotes! The city is acquiring/purchasing the all the homes on the lake waterfront from the residences so the public can access the whole lake and its trails!
Within Deer Lake is the private residential gated community of Blenheim Woods. Built around 1985 this is one of the few bare lot strata’s in Burnaby. There are 21 West Coast styled homes. The area is made up of cul-de-sacs, and it is ideally located across from the Lake!
Deer Lake Park offers other activities such as canoeing, kayaking and bird-watching. The park also hosts music festivals and is home to art and heritage centre of Burnaby.
Deer Lake Place
After Lower Deer Lake and Buckingham Heights, Deer Lake Place is next in having the most consistent neighbourhood of nice homes. Although this area is zoned R-2 which allows up to 4,700 square feet homes to be built, the lots are a very good size and the neighbourhood has a greet feel to it! Gilpin School is a highly rated and a popular school! The private school Deer Lake is right in the neighbourhood. The newly built Burnaby Central Secondary School is across the street from the City Hall and it is not unusual to see students in the City Hall cafeteria or courtyard. Although Deer Lake Place borders Royal Oak and Canada Way and Deer Lake Parkway, the core, center area is very quiet and peaceful. The cemetery is to the west of Royal Oak in Greentree Village. It adds a park like feel and will help maintain a lower density in this area.
This is a suburban neighborhood with easy access to downtown Vancouver through its close proximity to Highway 1 and public transit. The neighborhood benefits from having close proximity to Deer Lake. For shopping, services and community centres it is not too far from Metropolis, Bonsor Community Centre, and the library at Metrotown but for smaller items there are some basic amenities close by at Canada Way and Sperling
Upper Deer Lake
Because Upper Deer Lake is higher up in elevation, many properties have fabulous views of the North Shore Mountains. A potential buyer can find high-end luxury homes or there are a few newer apartment complexes mixed into the detached home neighbourhood. It is walking distance to Kingsway with all its shops, restaurants, grocery store, bus stops etc. Plus it is walking distance to the trails of Deer Lake Parklands! Forest Glen (Forglen)
Forest Glen is higher up on the hill which provides excellent views of North Shore Mountains and some properties can see Deer Lake! The upper, southern part of Forest Glen is composed of high and low rises while the rest of the area is only detached homes.
The largest park in the area, Forest Glen Park, has a playground for children and incredible views of the mountains for everyone to enjoy! The park connects to Deer Lake Park making a huge green space for all that desire to be outdoors. Forest Glen is centrally located and much of the area is walking distance to great urban amenities such as Metrotown for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, groceries, Bonsor Community Centre, the library and to Deer Lake Park. This suburban neighborhood has many family friendly amenities and is close to several elementary schools. It is in between Royal Oak and Willingdon from east to west and Deer Lake Parkway to the north and Grange to the south. So close to so much this is a great place to raise a family and all social, recreational and lifestyle needs are in the nearby area!
