Edmonds Highgate Condos and Townhouses

Located just north of New Westminster, Edmonds, was one of the first settled areas in Burnaby and home to the tram line which went between Vancouver and New Westminster. The area soon became a population hub! And today Edmonds is still a higher density area within East Burnaby and is accessible to the Edmonds SkyTrain station making it a desirable suburban neighbourhood for commuters! Edmonds’ new developments KING CROSSING and SOUTHGATE CITY, plus proximity of other high density developments and to Highgate Centre makes this a strong developing urban centre within Burnaby.

The neighborhood is home to many parks, schools and an active commercial district along Edmonds St. Mary Avenue, Hilda Avenue, Ernie Winche and Stride Avenue Park are some of the parks that service the neighborhood. Many of these parks have grassy fields that are great for play a game of pick-up sports or even just enjoying the outdoors. All along Edmonds St is a collection of small neighborhood businesses where you can find restaurants, coffee shops, professional services, and much more. The Edmonds’ Community Center is a new, modern facility which is one of the best that Burnaby has to offer with water fountains and massive water bucket, pool with two water slides, gym, work out center with lots of modern equipment, playground for the kids, senior and teen centres/lounges, and a coffee shop for everyone’s pleasure. East Burnaby and especially Edmonds is known as one of the most ethnically diverse areas in Canada as written in the Vancouver Sun 11-02-2015.

Condos and townhouses drive a majority of the real estate transactions in Edmonds while houses are sold at a more modest rate.

Highgate is a neighborhood from Edmonds St and Imperial to Canada Way and Rumble. There is a vibrant commercial centre which surrounds a strip of Kingsway from Edmonds St to Gilley. This neighborhood is rapidly growing and becoming home to many middle-class residents because of its location along Kingsway and all the amenities which are within walking distance. Everything you need to live and play is in one area!

Highgate Centre or Village is a mixed retail/residential space developed in the early 2000’s. The towers have easy access to the retail space. Highgate Centre has some major, big-name tenants in their mall for the convenience of the locals. Save On foods, Burnaby specialty liquor store, Shoppers Drug Mart, 16Linden workout center, Y-Yoga, Japanese restaurant, bakery, flower shop, candy store, and across the street, major banks like BMO, Royal Bank and CIBC, as well as a newer library and many other services. The Highgate courtyard is where many locals hang out in giving this area a close-knit community feel. Bordering Edmonds means both communities are growing into each other to form a larger centre. Highgate with Edmonds is an area to watch as they develop and grow together!

Condos in Highgate Village dominate the residential market in this area but the area north of the village is mainly single family homes.
