Vancouver has a talent for sending summer off in style, and this year the farewell is happening right on the water. Concord Pacific and TD are bringing dragon boat racing back to False Creek for one full day this August, and they are not doing it quietly.

Expect fast boats, an EDM headliner, food trucks, and cultural programming spread across the waterfront. The best part: it will not cost you a thing.

A One-Day Sprint, Not the Usual Festival

The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Summer Regatta lands at Concord Pacific Place and False Creek on Saturday, August 22, from 9 am to 6 pm. Organized by Dragon Boat BC, it is a one-time event that bridges the 2025 and 2027 festivals. The docks sit on the south shore of False Creek, just outside the Creekside Community Centre, so there is plenty of seawall to watch the action from.

These Teams Mean Business

This is not a casual paddle around the pond. The regatta doubles as the final time trial for several of North America’s top dragon boat teams before they fly to Taiwan the following week for the 2026 Club Crew World Championships. Translation: you are watching athletes at full tilt, one week out from the biggest race of their year.

Music, Food, and Culture on the Grounds

The programming reaches well beyond the water and leans into both the history of the sport and Vancouver’s current creative scene.

What to look for on shore

  • TD Main Stage: an all-local lineup, with globally recognized EDM artist Hoang headlining a hometown set to close out the summer.
  • Chinatown groups plus Indigenous elders and organizations sharing the history and heart behind dragon boat racing.
  • Local artisans and a full run of food trucks along the waterfront.
  • An early kickoff on August 15: Dragon Boat BC and the Chinese Canadian Museum team up for a family-friendly live audio play by Five Blessings Collective in Chinatown, digging into where dragon boat culture comes from.

Why Only One Day This Year?

Normally the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival runs across a full weekend and ranks as the largest event of its kind in North America. This year it ran into a scheduling wall. Part of the site fell inside the FIFA World Cup security zone around BC Place, with restrictions in place for two weeks on either side of the tournament. Rather than lose the tradition for a whole year, Concord Pacific and TD stepped in to keep one day of it on the calendar.

The Big One Is Back in 2027

Here is the payoff. At noon on August 22, organizers will announce from the TD Main Stage that the full Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival returns June 25 to 27, 2027. For now, this single day is your invitation to close out the season on the seawall with fast boats, loud music, and good food. Bring the family, grab a spot along the water, and enjoy the send-off.
